Son Heung-min (LAFC) has been included in South Korea's squad for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, setting up his fourth appearance on the World Cup stage.
Hong Myung-bo, head coach of the South Korean national football team, announced the final 26-man roster for the 2026 North American World Cup at KT Onmadang in Jongno-gu, Seoul, on Tuesday.
Son's inclusion in the final squad means he will compete in his fourth World Cup, following the 2014 Brazil, 2018 Russia, and 2022 Qatar tournaments.
By position, the attacking line, led by Son Heung-min, includes Oh Hyeon-gyu (Besiktas) and Cho Gue-sung (Midtjylland), all chosen by Coach Hong.
The midfield selections include Lee Jae-sung (Mainz), Lee Kang-in (Paris Saint-Germain), Hwang Hee-chan (Wolverhampton Wanderers), Kim Jin-gyu (Jeonbuk), Baek Seung-ho (Birmingham City), Hwang In-beom (Feyenoord), Lee Dong-gyeong (Ulsan), Yang Hyun-jun (Celtic), Bae Jun-ho (Stoke City), and Eom Ji-sung (Swansea City).
The defense is anchored by Kim Min-jae (Bayern Munich), along with Jens Castrop (Borussia Mönchengladbach), Lee Tae-seok (Austria Wien), Seol Young-woo (Red Star Belgrade), Kim Moon-hwan (Daejeon), Kim Tae-hyun (Kashima Antlers), Cho Yu-min (Sharjah), Lee Han-beom (Midtjylland), Park Jin-seop (Zhejiang), and Lee Ki-hyuk (Gangwon).
Goalkeeping duties for Hong's squad will be handled by Kim Seung-gyu (FC Tokyo), Jo Hyeon-woo (Ulsan), and Song Bum-keun (Jeonbuk).
Meanwhile, Lee Seung-woo, who has been a standout performer in the domestic K League, was left off the roster.
After finalizing the squad, Hong's team will board a flight to Salt Lake City in the United States, the location of their pre-tournament camp, on Thursday afternoon. Other players will join the squad locally.
The team will first focus on adapting to high-altitude conditions before playing friendlies against Trinidad and Tobago at 10 a.m. on May 31 (Korea time) and El Salvador at 10 a.m. on June 4. After the El Salvador match, the squad will travel to Guadalajara, Mexico, on June 5 to set up its World Cup base camp. South Korea will play its opening tournament match against the Czech Republic at 11 a.m. on June 12.
