World No. 1 Jannik Sinner of Italy has surpassed Novak Djokovic's record by winning 32 consecutive matches at ATP Tour Masters 1000 events.
Sinner defeated Andrey Rublev (No. 14, Russia) 2-0 (6-2, 6-4) in the men's singles quarterfinal of the ATP Tour Italian Open held in Rome on Wednesday.
He has swept Masters 1000 trophies in succession since the Paris event last November, followed this year by Indian Wells, Miami, Monte Carlo and Madrid. His 32-match winning streak at this level eclipses the previous record of 31 consecutive wins set by Djokovic in 2011.
If Sinner wins this tournament, he will achieve the Career Golden Masters by claiming all nine Masters 1000 titles, a feat previously accomplished only by Djokovic. Sinner will face Daniil Medvedev (No. 9, Russia) in the semifinal, and if he advances to the final, he will meet the winner between Casper Ruud (No. 25, Norway) and Luciano Darderi (No. 20, Italy).
