South Korea's under-17 football team has advanced to the quarterfinals of the 2026 Asian Football Confederation (AFC) U-17 Asian Cup as the runner-up of its group.
Korea, led by head coach Kim Hyun-jun, drew 0-0 with Yemen in the third and final Group C match of the tournament's group stage held at King Abdullah Sports City in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, on Thursday local time.
Finishing the group stage with one win and two draws for five points, Korea advanced to the quarterfinals as the group runner-up behind Vietnam, which posted two wins and one loss for six points.
Korea will face Uzbekistan in the quarterfinals at 1 a.m. on Monday Korea time. A win would set up a semifinal matchup against the winner of the Japan-Tajikistan match.
A total of 16 teams are participating in the tournament, with the champion to be determined through a four-group stage and a quarterfinal knockout round.
The eight teams that advanced to the knockout round, including Korea, have secured berths in the FIFA U-17 World Cup set to be held in Qatar in November.
Korea has won the U-17 Asian Cup twice (1986, 2002) and finished as runner-up three times (2008, 2014, 2023).
