Choi Hyoung-woo, 43, of the Samsung Lions, who has been rewriting various batting records in Korean professional baseball, has set another milestone.
Choi went 2-for-3 in an away game against the NC Dinos in the 2026 Shinhan SOL Bank KBO League at Changwon NC Park on Monday.
With the performance, Choi became the first player in KBO League history to record 4,500 total bases, reaching the mark 25 seasons after his professional debut in 2002. Total bases refer to the number of bases a batter safely advances after getting a hit.
After joining the Samsung Lions in 2002, Choi recorded his 1,000th total base in a home game against the KIA Tigers on July 15, 2012, and subsequently reached 2,000 in April 2016, 3,000 in May 2019, and 4,000 in 2024.
Still showing no signs of decline past the age of 40, Choi started as the No. 3 designated hitter on the day and achieved the record with two consecutive hits.
The oldest active batter in professional baseball, Choi also holds records for most hits (2,632), most runs batted in (1,764), and most doubles (550).
In the game, Samsung crushed NC 11-1 to extend its winning streak to seven games. In the top of the second inning with two outs and runners on second and third, Jeon Byeong-woo stole home to score the first run, followed by a timely hit from Kim Heon-gon and a two-run home run over the right-field fence by Koo Ja-wook, putting Samsung ahead 4-0.
In the fifth inning, Lewin Diaz added a run with a timely hit, and Ryu Ji-hyuk blasted a grand slam to stretch the lead to 9-0, effectively sealing the outcome early.
