The organizing committee for the 2026 World Taekwondo Hanmadang has officially launched and begun full-scale preparations for the event.
Kukkiwon said Tuesday that it held the committee's inaugural meeting at its headquarters in Gangnam-gu, Seoul, on Monday.
Han Hye-jin, former Kukkiwon board member who serves as acting chairperson and secretary general, also unveiled the master plan for the World Taekwondo Hanmadang under the slogan "Kukkiwon, World Taekwondo Hanmadang, THE FIRST LIGHT" at the inaugural meeting.
The 2026 World Taekwondo Hanmadang will be held at Kukkiwon for five days starting August 1, in cooperation with Gangnam-gu.
It will be the first time the World Taekwondo Hanmadang has been held at Kukkiwon in 10 years, since 2016.
This year's competition, which Kukkiwon expects to draw about 5,000 participants from 55 countries, will feature contests in 143 divisions across 15 events in total.
Depending on the scale of participation, separate preliminary rounds will be introduced for the team all-around competition and the domestic individual all-around breaking category to enhance efficiency.
Registration will be accepted from the middle of this month through the Hanmadang website.
