Spanish golf star Jon Rahm has reached a settlement with the DP World Tour after a prolonged legal dispute over fines.
Speaking to reporters in Washington, D.C. on Sunday ahead of the LIV Golf Virginia event, Rahm said, "The conflict with the DP World Tour has been resolved." According to Reuters, Rahm was fined by the DP World Tour last year for competing in LIV Golf events without permission.
Rahm and the DP World Tour had been in litigation over the issue before reaching a settlement. The DP World Tour said, "Rahm has agreed to pay outstanding fines incurred since 2024 and to compete in agreed-upon DP World Tour events for the remainder of 2026."
Rahm, who won the 2021 U.S. Open and the 2023 Masters, announced his move to LIV Golf in December 2023. He is reported to have received $300 million (about 440 billion won) in exchange for the switch.
Under the settlement, Rahm will be able to compete in next week's PGA Championship and the remaining DP World Tour events this year, earning "Race to Dubai" ranking points. This also opens the door for him to represent Team Europe at next year's Ryder Cup, the biennial golf competition between Europe and the United States. Team Europe selects its players based on Race to Dubai ranking points. The Ryder Cup, held every two years, will take place in Ireland in September 2027.
"There is still plenty of time until the Ryder Cup, but by then I want to go to Ireland without any worries," Rahm said. "There are also many DP World Tour events I want to play in."
Regarding LIV Golf, Rahm said, "I have a few years left on my current contract. I don't want to think about the future right now because I have to focus on the rest of the season and the major tournaments."
