Kim Si-woo, who has been showcasing sharp form this season, is targeting his first victory of the season at a premier PGA Tour event.
Kim will compete in the PGA Tour's Truist Championship, held over four days starting Wednesday (local time) at Quail Hollow Club (par 71) in Charlotte, North Carolina. The tournament is the sixth signature event of the season, with a total purse of $20 million and 700 FedEx Cup points on the line for the winner.
Kim has made the cut in all 12 tournaments he has entered this season, with six top-10 finishes, placing him sixth in the FedEx Cup standings. In his two most recent events, he finished third at the RBC Heritage and tied for fourth at the Cadillac Championship. Given his upward trajectory, a victory is well within reach. Kim's most recent win came at the Sony Open.
Rory McIlroy of Northern Ireland stands out as Kim's strongest rival for the title. McIlroy has won four times at tournaments held at Quail Hollow Club, though the event name has changed over the years. He claimed his first victory there at the 2010 Quail Hollow Championship and most recently won the 2024 Wells Fargo Championship, continuing his close ties with the course. World No. 2 McIlroy rested after winning last month's Masters and prepared for this tournament.
World No. 3 Cameron Young of the United States, who won The Players Championship and the Cadillac Championship this year, along with Matt Fitzpatrick of England, who won the Valspar Championship and the team-format Zurich Classic, are also contenders. World No. 1 Scottie Scheffler of the United States will not compete in this event.
During the same week as the Truist Championship, the Myrtle Beach Classic (total purse of $4 million) will be held at Dunes Golf and Beach Club in South Carolina. Kim Joo-hyung is the lone Korean player in the field.
