Right-handed bullpen pitcher Go Woo-suk, 28, who had been rumored to be returning to his former team the LG Twins, will remain in the United States to continue his bid to reach Major League Baseball (MLB).
"Go Woo-suk expressed his regret about his time in American baseball and stated that he wants to keep challenging himself there," the LG Twins said on the 5th. "The club has ultimately decided to respect Go's wishes."
LG had pursued Go as a replacement after closer Yoo Young-chan was ruled out for the season last month due to a right elbow injury. LG General Manager Cha Myung-seok traveled to the United States on the 30th of last month and met with Go several times in person to persuade him to return to Korea. However, he was unable to sway Go's determination to challenge himself in the big leagues.
Go, who had been a top-tier closer in the KBO League with LG, moved to the United States in 2024 after signing with the San Diego Padres. He later played for the Miami Marlins before signing a minor league deal with the Detroit Tigers ahead of this season. This season, he appeared in 10 games across Triple-A and Double-A, posting a 1-loss, 1-hold, 1-save record with a 2.40 ERA.
