Arsenal have secured a ticket to the UEFA Champions League (UCL) final for the first time in 20 years.
Arsenal defeated Atletico Madrid of Spain 1-0 in the second leg of their 2025-2026 UCL semifinal home match at Emirates Stadium in London on Tuesday.
After drawing 1-1 in the first leg on April 30, Arsenal knocked out Atletico Madrid with a 2-1 aggregate score to advance to the final.
It marks Arsenal's first appearance in a UCL final since the 2005-2006 season.
Arsenal, who finished as runners-up 20 years ago after losing 2-1 to FC Barcelona in the final, will be chasing their first-ever UCL title.
The club's only European trophy came in the 1993-1994 European Cup Winners' Cup. The competition, contested by national FA Cup winners, was later merged into the Europa League and discontinued.
Arsenal will face the winner of the semifinal between Bayern Munich of Germany, featuring Korean national team defender Kim Min-jae, and Paris Saint-Germain of France (PSG), where midfielder Lee Kang-in plays, in the UCL final at Puskas Arena in Budapest, Hungary, on May 31. The second leg between Munich and PSG will be played in the early hours of May 7 Korea time. PSG won the first leg 5-4.
Arsenal's winner came from Bukayo Saka in the 45th minute of the first half. William Saliba delivered a surprise long pass from near the halfway line that bypassed the Atletico defense and found space up front, allowing Viktor Gyokeres to break into the penalty area and send the ball to the left.
Leandro Trossard's right-footed shot was saved by Atletico goalkeeper Jan Oblak, but Saka tapped home the rebound to open the scoring.
