Son Heung-min (33, LAFC) recorded his eighth assist of the league season, leading his team to a dramatic draw.
LAFC secured a 2-2 draw against San Diego FC in an away match of the 11th round of the 2026 Major League Soccer (MLS) season, held at Snapdragon Stadium in San Diego, California, on Tuesday (local time), thanks to an equalizing goal that came just before the final whistle.
Son, who was substituted into the match in the 15th minute of the second half, assisted Denis Bouanga's goal in the 37th minute of the second half when the team was trailing 0-2, marking his eighth assist of the league season. With this, Son rose to sole first place in the MLS assist rankings.
Including seven matches in the Confederation of North, Central America and Caribbean Association Football (CONCACAF) Champions Cup, he has recorded 14 assists across all official competitions this season.
LAFC had been trailing the home side San Diego after conceding consecutive goals until late in the second half.
However, Son's substitution changed the momentum. Following Bouanga's goal in the 37th minute of the second half, in the 14th minute of second-half stoppage time, Mathieu Choinière headed down a corner kick for Ryan Hollingshead, who was stationed in front of the goal, and he calmly converted with a left-footed shot to break open San Diego's goal.
With the one point earned from this draw, LAFC maintained third place in the Western Conference (21 points), while San Diego, which let a near-certain victory slip away, extended its winless run to nine matches (three draws, six losses) and remained in 11th place (12 points).
