Lee Hyun-ju, 23, playing for Portuguese top-flight club Arouca, scored his sixth league goal of the season but was left dejected after being sent off for accumulating two yellow cards.
Lee started as an attacking midfielder in Arouca's home match against Santa Clara in the 32nd round of the 2025-2026 Primeira Liga, held Saturday at Estadio Municipal de Arouca, and opened the scoring.
In the eighth minute, Lee calmly slotted home with his right foot after Tiago Esgaio threaded a pass into the box.
With the goal, Lee has now recorded six goals and three assists in 29 league appearances this season.
Despite his sixth goal of the campaign, Lee was unable to smile at the end of the match. After picking up his first yellow card in the third minute of first-half stoppage time, he was shown a second yellow in the 66th minute and sent off. It marked the second time this season that Lee has been dismissed for accumulated cautions.
Arouca drew 2-2 with Santa Clara.
A graduate of the K League 1 Pohang Steelers youth academy, Lee drew considerable attention when he joined German powerhouse Bayern Munich in 2022.
After gaining competitive experience on loan in the German second division, he moved to Arouca last summer and has successfully settled into the Portuguese stage.
In November 2024, Lee received his first senior national team call-up under head coach Hong Myung-bo and appeared in an A-match (a game between senior national teams) against Kuwait.
