Lee Young-pyo, a former South Korean national team defender and one of the heroes of the country's 2002 World Cup semifinal run, has been appointed as an outside director of K League 1 club Ulsan HD.
The club held an extraordinary shareholders' meeting on the morning of the 30th at its clubhouse in Dong-gu, Ulsan, and officially appointed Lee, the former chief executive of Gangwon FC, as its first outside director.
The club said the appointment of a former national team player as its first outside director "symbolizes Ulsan's commitment to advancing professional football administration."
During his playing career, Lee gained experience in top-flight European football, playing for prestigious clubs including PSV Eindhoven, Tottenham Hotspur FC and Borussia Dortmund.
After retiring as a player, Lee served as CEO of Gangwon FC, where he led communication-focused management and spearheaded the establishment of a mid- to long-term youth development system.
Ulsan expects that Lee's experience in European football and his administrative expertise will contribute to shaping the club's philosophy and mid- to long-term vision.
