Nelly Korda of the United States completely dominated the women's golf scene in 2024, winning seven titles on the LPGA Tour. But last year, she failed to pick up a single victory. She also lost her world No. 1 ranking to Jeeno Thitikul of Thailand.
For most players, such a stretch could easily lead to a slump. But Korda returned to form in flawless fashion, capturing her third major title at the LPGA Tour's Chevron Championship held at Memorial Park Golf Course (par 72) in Houston, Texas, on the 26th (local time). She has posted a "win-runner-up-runner-up-runner-up-win" record across five tournaments this season.
What is the secret behind Korda coming back even stronger after a year-long downturn? In an exclusive interview with the May issue of UK-based Golf Monthly, Korda said, "I can't control the bounce (of the ball), how other players perform, or the weather." She added, "What I can control is my attitude toward my play, my diligence, and the passion within me."
A positive attitude that accepts the ups and downs of performance as part of everyday life also played a role. "Throughout my career, every year has seemed to unfold as a completely different story, and that's exactly the charm of sports," she said. "A new year is like writing a new chapter. Sometimes it's thrilling, sometimes it's infuriating. Every emotion comes into play, but that's what makes it fun."
