The disciplinary action against volleyball player Ahn Hye-jin (28, GS Caltex), who was caught driving under the influence, will be decided on the 27th.
The Korea Volleyball Federation (KOVO) will hold a Rewards and Punishment Committee meeting regarding Ahn Hye-jin at the KOVO office in Mapo-gu, Seoul, on the 27th. Ahn is expected to attend the committee meeting in person to explain the details of the incident.
Ahn was caught driving under the influence on the 16th of this month and was booked by police for investigation. The following day, Ahn and her former team GS Caltex posted messages on social media acknowledging the incident and issuing an apology.
A severe penalty against Ahn appears inevitable. Under Article 10, Paragraph 1 of the federation's rewards and punishment regulations, DUI offenses can result in penalties ranging from a warning to expulsion at maximum, with a fine of at least 5 million won required. KOVO plans to determine the penalty after reviewing the circumstances of the incident and Ahn's position.
Ahn has lost much due to this DUI incident. She obtained free agent (FA) status after the 2025-26 season but has yet to sign with any team, leaving her stranded. She appeared in 25 matches and 59 sets this season, contributing to her team's championship victory and drawing interest from several clubs. However, negotiations halted after the DUI incident, meaning she will be unable to play in the V-League next season. In addition, she had been called up to the national team for the first time in about four years since 2022, but has now been stripped of her national team eligibility. According to the Korea Volleyball Association's regulations, a player convicted of DUI cannot represent the national team for three years if fined 5 million won or more, or for two years if fined less than 5 million won.
