Matt Fitzpatrick, 31, and his brother Alex Fitzpatrick, 27, of England moved into the lead after the third round of the Zurich Classic, the PGA Tour's two-player team event with a total purse of $9.5 million.
The pair shot a 15-under 57 in Friday's third round at TPC Louisiana (par 72) in Avondale, Louisiana, on Saturday Korea time. In the four-ball format, where each player plays his own ball and the better score on each hole counts as the team score, they recorded one eagle and 13 birdies without a bogey.
Setting a new tournament record for the lowest single-round score, they stood at 30-under 186 at the midway point, jumping from a tie for second the previous day to sole possession of the lead.
They lead by four strokes over David Thompson and Austin Eckroat of the United States and Alex Smalley and Hayden Springer of the United States, all tied for second at 26-under. The final round will be played in the foursomes format, in which teammates alternate shots with a single ball.
Matt Fitzpatrick, ranked third in the world, is chasing back-to-back wins following last week's signature RBC Heritage, aiming for his third victory of the season and fifth career PGA Tour title. Younger brother Alex Fitzpatrick, ranked 141st in the world, currently plays on Europe's DP World Tour and won the Hero Indian Open last month. A victory at this event would earn him a two-year PGA Tour exemption.
Among Korean players, Kim Joo-hyung teamed with Kevin Yu of Taiwan but missed the cut the previous day.
