This year's Korea Open will be played with a total purse of 2 billion won ($1.5 million), up 600 million won from last year.
Kolon, the tournament organizer, said Monday that "with $500,000 in prize money support from LIV Golf, with whom we have been expanding our partnership, the winner's share will be 700 million won and the total purse 2 billion won, making this the largest tournament in its history." Kolon said the expanded scale, compared with last year's 1.4 billion won purse, is expected to further cement the symbolism and prestige of Korea's national title event.
The 68th Kolon Korea Open Golf Championship will be held May 21-24 at Woo Jeong Hills Country Club in Cheonan, South Chungcheong Province. With partial support from LIV, several LIV players will also compete in the Korea Open. Bubba Watson of the United States, the 2012 and 2014 Masters champion, will return to the Korea Open for the first time in 20 years since 2006, while Mexico's Abraham Ancer and New Zealand's Danny Lee, a Korean-born Kiwi, will also take part.
LIV Golf CEO Scott O'Neil said, "We are proud to partner with Kolon on Korea's national title event," adding, "LIV Golf, which supports the global growth of the sport, hopes to use this opportunity to help build a development pathway for promising Korean players."
Tickets for the Kolon Korea Open can be reserved online through Unitix, the official ticketing channel. Souvenirs will be provided to buyers, and elementary school children under 13 can enter free after on-site verification.
