FC Seoul broke their decade-long "Ulsan away jinx" and solidified their position at the top of the K League 1 standings.
Seoul thrashed Ulsan HD 4-1 in a rescheduled Round 2 match of the 2026 Hana Bank K League 1 at Ulsan Munsu Football Stadium on Thursday. Song Min-kyu led the victory with two goals and one assist.
With the win, Seoul extended their unbeaten streak to seven matches (six wins, one draw) since the season opener, accumulating 19 points. They widened the gap over second-place Ulsan (13 points) to six points, further cementing their lead.
The most significant aspect of the victory was escaping the "Ulsan away jinx." Seoul had gone 13 matches without a win (four draws, nine losses) at Ulsan since their last victory there in April 2016, but Thursday's triumph ended the 3,643-day nightmare.
Seoul dominated from the early stages. In the fourth minute, Hui-z finished off a cross from Song Min-kyu to score the opening goal. Just six minutes later, an own goal from a corner kick situation gave Seoul a quick 2-0 lead.
Riding the momentum, Seoul extended the lead to 3-0 when Song Min-kyu scored himself in the 34th minute. He broke down the defense on a counterattack and found the net with a right-footed shot.
Ulsan attempted tactical changes at the start of the second half but failed to turn the tide. Instead, Song Min-kyu added another goal in the 52nd minute, effectively sealing the match.
Ulsan pulled one back in the 67th minute when Malcom finished off a cutback from Jang Si-young. However, Seoul goalkeeper Gu Seong-yun made a series of saves to prevent further damage and close out the match.
Having defeated both Jeonbuk and Ulsan, Seoul has emerged as the strongest title contender in the early season. Under manager Kim Ki-dong, the team is said to be completing "Ki-dong Magic" by elevating both organization and finishing ability simultaneously.
After the match, Song Min-kyu said, "I'm happy to win despite the tough schedule. The fans who came out to support us on a weekday gave us tremendous strength." He added, "The entire squad and staff are determined to repay the fans' support with victories."
