Gimhae City in South Gyeongsang Province announced Wednesday that it will develop a large-scale park golf course called "Daedong Park Golf Course" utilizing waterfront space along the Nakdong River.
The facility will be built as a 36-hole course on a 41,893-square-meter site in Jounul-ri, Daedong-myeon. The total project cost is 900 million won ($660,000), of which 270 million won was secured in March through a special adjustment grant from South Gyeongsang Province.
The site was originally designated as a "general conservation zone" under the Nakdong River basic plan, which restricted the installation of sports facilities. However, the project became feasible after the area was redesignated as a "waterfront zone" through a plan amendment in December 2024. The city subsequently completed administrative procedures by obtaining river occupation permits in January following consultations with the Nakdong River Basin Environmental Office.
The city plans to complete permits for activities within the development restriction zone this month, break ground next month, and finish construction by December.
"Through this project, we will efficiently utilize the Nakdong River waterfront space and provide a community sports environment that any citizen can easily access," a city official said.
