Jecheon, a city in North Chungcheong Province, is launching construction of a mountain-style park golf course in the Goam-dong area, targeting a 2028 opening.
The city announced Monday that it has completed key administrative procedures for the "Mountain-Style Northern District Park Golf Course Construction Project" in the Goam-dong area and has moved the project into full-scale development. Jecheon plans to invest a total of 16.4 billion won in building a 36-hole mountain course on a site spanning approximately 103,474 square meters.
The course will be designed to take advantage of the mountainous terrain. Supporting facilities including a clubhouse, community sports facilities and walking trails will also be built on site. To improve visitor convenience, parking capacity will be significantly expanded from 144 spaces to 340. A new urban planning road measuring 137 meters in length and 15 meters in width will also be constructed, directly connecting a nearby intersection to the golf course.
The project is gaining momentum. The city recently completed a small-scale environmental impact assessment consultation with the Wonju Regional Environment Office. Based on the results, Jecheon plans to begin full-scale construction starting with tree-clearing work on the site. The city had previously held multiple public hearings since February last year to gather local residents' opinions.
Jecheon aims to begin civil engineering work in the first half of this year, complete construction by the end of 2027, conduct a trial operation, and officially open the course in early 2028. "Once the course is completed, it is expected to contribute not only to expanding regional sports infrastructure but also to improving citizens' health and quality of life," a city official said.
