"My friends watched the broadcast and sent me so many messages. With so many people cheering me on, I really enjoyed playing. My goal for the next tournament is first place. I really want to win."
Those were the words of amateur golfer Kim Seo-a, 14, a second-year student at Shinsung Middle School, after the final round of the Korea Ladies Professional Golf Association (KLPGA) Tour's The Siena Open 2026 at The Siena Belluto Country Club (par 72) in Yeoju, Gyeonggi Province, on Sunday. Her face was brimming with confidence.
Kim emerged as a rising star alongside tournament winner Ko Ji-won, drawing intense spotlight throughout the event. The 14-year-old middle schooler entered the tournament as a sponsored invitee and posted a four-round total of 9-under-par 279 to finish tied for fourth. She matched the professionals shot for shot with booming drives throughout the tournament, ultimately securing a top-five finish.
Although she carded a 1-over 73 on the final day with one birdie and two bogeys, her expression carried more conviction than disappointment — a sense that she could do even better next time. "Today the round didn't go the way I wanted, so it's a bit disappointing, but I think it was a great experience. Watching the older players, I learned how not to lose strokes in difficult situations," Kim said. "My original goal was to finish inside the top 30, so I'm happy to have achieved a much better result. If I get to compete in another regular tour event, I'd love to try for a win."
