Tottenham Hotspur, the English Premier League (EPL) club facing a relegation crisis, is on the verge of appointing Roberto De Zerbi, 46, as their new manager.
BBC reported on May 30 (local time) that "there has been progress in negotiations between Tottenham and De Zerbi." The broadcaster added that "sources say De Zerbi is willing to take charge immediately."
Tottenham announced on May 29 through their official website that "the club has reached a mutual agreement to part ways with Igor Tudor with immediate effect." The statement added, "We thank Tudor for his efforts over the past six weeks. A new manager will be announced in due course."
Tudor, who took charge of Tottenham on February 14 as a replacement for Frank Thomas, leaves after just 44 days in charge, having managed seven matches with a record of one win, one draw, and five defeats.
Tottenham, who have slumped to 17th in the EPL this season, sought a new manager to stave off relegation. The club identified De Zerbi, who previously managed Brighton & Hove Albion, as their preferred candidate and entered negotiations.
"Tottenham are working on finalizing a deal to bring in De Zerbi immediately," BBC reported. "Talks have been positive, and they are closing in on a final agreement."
According to BBC, Tottenham plan to offer De Zerbi a long-term contract.
