Jang Woo-jin (SEA) and Shin Yu-bin (Korean Air), the male and female aces of Korean table tennis, both opened their 2026 International Table Tennis Federation (ITTF) World Cup campaigns with convincing victories.
World No. 10 Jang defeated Chinese Taipei's Chang Yuan (No. 76) 3-0 (12-10, 13-11, 11-8) in his opening Group 8 match of the men's singles at the World Cup in Macau on Saturday.
The World Cup is considered one of table tennis's three major tournaments alongside the Olympics and the World Championships. A total of 48 players compete in both the men's and women's draws, divided into 16 groups of three, with only the group winner advancing to the round of 16.
Jang must beat Japan's Uda Yukiya (No. 27) in his final group match to secure a spot in the round of 16.
