Hong made the remarks at a press conference held on Wednesday at the Ernst-Happel-Stadion in Vienna, one day before the friendly against Austria.
South Korea suffered a humiliating 0-4 defeat to Ivory Coast in their previous match, played in Milton Keynes, England.
Son and Lee Kang-in, who were not in full fitness, came on as second-half substitutes. Lee Jae-sung did not play at all.
