San Francisco Giants outfielder Lee Jung-hoo, 28, recorded his first hit of the 2026 season with a double.
The Giants lost 1-3 to the New York Yankees in a home game at Oracle Park in San Francisco, California, on Tuesday (Korea time).
Lee started as the leadoff hitter and right fielder, going 1-for-3 with a walk and one run scored. After batting fifth as the right fielder in the first and second games against the Yankees, Lee moved to the leadoff spot and notched his first hit of the season.
His season stats stand at 1-for-10 with a batting average of .100. The Giants dropped all three games of their opening home series against the Yankees, starting the season on a three-game losing streak.
Lee grounded out to second base as the leadoff batter in the first inning but broke through with a double to lead off the bottom of the third with his team trailing 0-2.
Lee connected on Yankees starter Will Warren's fourth pitch, a 136.8 km/h sweeper, lining it to right field for a double. He then scored on the next batter Matt Chapman's single to center. It was San Francisco's first run of the season after being shut out in two consecutive games against the Yankees.
The Yankees, however, pulled away to 3-1 in the fifth inning, powered by Aaron Judge's home run in his second straight game.
Lee reached base on a walk with one out in the fifth inning but was stranded as the following batters failed to deliver. In the seventh, he struck out on three pitches against Yankees fourth pitcher Tim Hill.
The third pitch was initially called a ball, but Yankees catcher Austin Wells requested a challenge and the call was overturned.
The Giants had a chance in the ninth with runners on first and second with no outs while trailing by two runs, but Harrison Bader struck out against Yankees pitcher David Bednar and Patrick Bailey hit into a double-play grounder to second.
After managing just one run in the three-game opening series, the Giants will take a day off before opening a three-game road series against the San Diego Padres starting on the 31st.
