Tiger Woods, the legendary golfer who had been undergoing rehabilitation following surgery last year, was arrested and detained on a charge of driving under the influence (DUI) on Tuesday.
Woods was involved in a collision on a two-lane road on Jupiter Island in Martin County, Florida, shortly after 2 p.m. local time while driving his Land Rover, according to ABC News and the Associated Press.
The Martin County Sheriff's Office said Woods' vehicle rolled over but that Woods was not injured. However, Woods was arrested and detained at the scene on suspicion of DUI. It has not yet been disclosed whether he was under the influence of alcohol or drugs at the time.
Woods was also involved in a rollover accident in February 2021. He suffered severe injuries to his legs after crashing a Genesis GV80 on a downhill stretch in Rolling Hills Estates near Los Angeles, California, requiring an extended period of treatment and rehabilitation.
Authorities at the time concluded that Woods had been speeding and pressed the accelerator instead of the brake on a curve. Police said there was no evidence of alcohol or drug use in that incident.
Woods was also arrested on a DUI charge in 2017. Southern Florida police found him asleep behind the wheel of a car that was improperly parked with damage to the driver's side.
Woods told police at the time that he had taken prescription painkillers. He acknowledged reckless driving in court and was sentenced to a fine, probation and community service.
Now 50 years old, Woods is a golf legend who has won 15 major championships, including five Masters titles.
