Mohamed Salah, the 33-year-old Egyptian forward who once shared the Premier League Golden Boot with Son Heung-min, has announced his departure from Liverpool, ending a nine-year partnership with the English club.
Salah delivered the news through a video message posted on his social media account on Saturday. "Unfortunately, the day has come. This is the first part of my goodbye," Salah said. "I will leave Liverpool at the end of this season."
Liverpool confirmed the decision on its official website, stating that "Salah will bring his illustrious career at Liverpool to a close at the end of the 2025-2026 season."
Salah joined Liverpool from AS Roma in June 2017, wearing the No. 11 shirt and cementing himself as one of the most iconic players in the club's history. He contributed to two Premier League titles, two League Cup victories, a UEFA Champions League trophy, a FIFA Club World Cup, a UEFA Super Cup, an FA Cup, and a Community Shield. Salah has scored 255 goals in 435 official appearances for Liverpool, ranking third on the club's all-time scoring list.
Salah won the Premier League Golden Boot four times, including the 2021-2022 season when he shared the award with Son Heung-min, then at Tottenham Hotspur and now at LAFC, after both scored 23 goals.
However, this season has not been smooth. Salah managed only 10 goals in 34 official appearances. In December, he sparked controversy after claiming in a post-match interview following a game against Leeds United that he felt "thrown under the bus" by the club.
Where Salah will play next season after leaving Liverpool this summer remains unclear. Liverpool said a full celebration of "Salah's legacy and achievements" will take place at the end of the season when he bids farewell to Anfield, the club's home ground.
