The city of Gangneung in Gangwon Province will hold a completion ceremony on Monday for the newly built Gyeongpo Park Golf Course, constructed on idle waterfront space within the Gyeongpo Ecological Detention Reservoir, the city said Sunday.
The Gyeongpo Park Golf Course is a family-friendly recreational sports facility designed for people of all ages and genders. It features an 18-hole course on a total site area of 43,300 square meters (approximately 13,098 pyeong). Construction began in 2024, with hole layout and turf planting completed at the end of last year, followed by the installation of ancillary facilities earlier this year.
The course was designed to harmonize with the existing natural environment. It is equipped with fairways, roughs, water hazards and green spaces to provide a pleasant park golf experience.
The Gyeongpo Ecological Detention Reservoir area is also being expanded into an experiential multipurpose space. Starting next month, a boating facility utilizing the freshwater area is scheduled to begin operations, and a "Moonlight Art Show" will be launched to enhance the nighttime landscape. The city plans to use the development to expand recreational sports infrastructure and promote leisure culture, while developing the area into a multipurpose cultural space linked to nearby tourist attractions such as Ojukheon and Seongyojang.
"We will do our utmost in operations and management so that this can establish itself as the nation's finest premium park golf course," Gangneung Mayor Kim Hong-gyu said. "We will also continue efforts to expand park golf infrastructure."
