The "Super Match" between FC Seoul and Suwon Samsung Bluewings was once the defining rivalry in K League professional football. Marquee clashes featuring star players such as Park Ju-young and Ahn Jung-hwan, along with fierce chanting battles between supporter groups, drew massive attention. But the rivalry lost its luster after the 2023 season, when Suwon Samsung were relegated to K League 2. The two clubs still compete in separate divisions this season, yet they are staging a different kind of Super Match — topping both leagues in attendance and results.
According to the Korea Professional Football League on Wednesday, the top two highest-attended K League matches this season belong to Seoul and Suwon. The No. 1 spot goes to FC Seoul's home match against Gwangju FC at Seoul World Cup Stadium on Tuesday, which drew 24,122 spectators. Second place belongs to Suwon's match against Seoul E-Land at Suwon World Cup Stadium on February 28, which attracted 24,071 fans despite being a K League 2 fixture.
The two clubs are locked in fierce competition on the pitch as well. FC Seoul beat Incheon United 2-1 in their season opener, followed by victories over Jeju (2-1) and Pohang (1-0), before demolishing Gwangju 5-0 to extend their winning streak to four matches. It marks FC Seoul's first four-game winning run to start a season since the club's founding in 1983. After finishing sixth last season, new signings including forward Song Min-gyu and goalkeeper Gu Seong-yun have been performing well this campaign.
Suwon's momentum is equally strong. The club defeated Gimhae FC 3-0 in the fourth round of the Hana Bank K League 2 2026 at Gimhae Sports Complex on Monday, running their winning streak to four matches. Although it came in the second division, it is the first time Suwon have opened a season with four consecutive wins since the club was founded in 1995.
