Samchunri is the "strongest golf club" on the Korea Ladies Professional Golf Association (KLPGA) Tour.
Samchunri's Seo Kyo-rim and Jeon Ye-seong carded a bogey-free 11-under-par 61 with 11 birdies in the final round of the Karrma-D'Ocean Cup Golf Club Championship with ANEW GOLF at D'Ocean Country Club (par 72) in Yeosu, South Jeolla Province, on Saturday. The pair finished at 19-under-par 197, claiming the club's first championship title. The three-day tournament was played in foursome stroke and scramble formats, with the final round using a scramble format where teams select the more favorable ball position after each shot.
"Our team chemistry was great, which led to this victory. I'm especially grateful to the players who set up a good flow early on," Jeon said after the win. "This being our team's first victory makes it even more meaningful."
Seo added, "It was my first time competing in the club championship, so I was nervous, but the senior players took good care of me, which helped us achieve this team victory," crediting the entire Samchunri club.
The Korean National Team (Kim Kyu-bin and Yang Yun-seo) mounted a charge in the final round, cutting 13 strokes, but finished runner-up at 17-under-par 199, two strokes behind. SBI Savings Bank (Kim Ga-hee 2 and Kim Ji-yoon 2) took solo third at 13-under-par 203, while inaugural champion Mediheal (Bae So-hyun and Lee Chae-eun 2) finished solo fourth at 11-under-par 205.
Daebo Engineering & Construction Golf Team (Seo Eo-jin and Song Eun-ah) posted a daily best of 15-under-par in the final round but finished seventh at 8-under-par 208. Title sponsor Karrma (Lee Seung-yeon and Choi Ye-bon) finished at 6-under-par 210.
Now in its fifth year, the tournament is Korea's only women's golf club championship and was held ahead of the KLPGA Tour's domestic season opener. The first two rounds produced 73 birdies and one eagle in intense competition, while the final round saw bogey-free play from all clubs along with four eagles and 97 birdies, delighting fans with exciting golf.
Organizers continued their charitable program from last year. For each tee shot landing in the charity zone on the 18th hole, one Kanuda functional pillow was accumulated. Title sponsor Karrma contributed additional funds to bring the total to 100 pillows worth approximately 23 million won, which will be donated to underprivileged families and low-income households in Yeosu.
