VELLUTO means prosperity and vividness in Italian, while also referring to velvet fabric. It is a fitting name for a golf course whose greatest attractions are pristine nature and carpet-like turf.
The Siena Velluto Country Club, located on Yeoyang-ro in Yeoju, Gyeonggi Province, is hosting the KLPGA Tour's The Siena Open. The course opened in 1992 and changed hands from Halla Group to Stonebridge Asset Management (operated by Kakao VX) before The Siena Group acquired it last year.
The site sits at the boundary between mountainous and flat terrain, offering expansive views. Golfers of all skill levels can enjoy a round that is both comfortable and challenging. The 18-hole course, designed to maximize natural hills, valleys, and ridges, demands both patience and finesse. Each hole maintains strong independence, taking advantage of the pine forest topography.
The course comprises the Bella and Luce layouts, with six water holes on each nine. Only 6 of 18 holes have no water hazards. For this tournament, the par-72 course plays at 6,586 yards, with Luce as the front nine and Bella as the back nine.
The signature hole is the 4th (par 3). The island green harmonizes with rock formations on the right, creating a prime photo spot. At 162 yards, the distance is no pushover. The 18th hole (par 4), likely to be the final battleground, measures 374 yards—not long, but uphill from the second shot to the green with nine bunkers throughout, setting the stage for dramatic finishes. The par-5 holes also pose challenges, with three of four set at over 550 yards.
The clubhouse features works by artist Lee Bae, giving it the feel of a private gallery. Lee is an internationally renowned contemporary artist who reinterprets the spirit of Eastern ink painting using charcoal.
