Seoul's Jungnang District Park Golf Course will now operate at night to meet growing demand for recreational sports among residents.
Jungnang District held a night opening ceremony at the district park golf course on the 16th.
The nine-hole course, established in April 2024 along the Jungnangcheon Stream riverbank, has attracted approximately 55,000 cumulative visitors since opening. The facility became so popular among residents that advance booking rates reached 97%, making reservations extremely difficult to secure.
The district decided to extend operating hours into the evening to address this demand. With a budget of approximately 60 million won, officials installed 10 lighting fixtures utilizing existing bicycle path streetlights, enabling play until 9 p.m. after sunset.
Operating procedures have also changed alongside the night opening. The course shifted from a seasonal three-to-four session system to a unified five-session system year-round. Maximum daily capacity expanded from 120-160 players to 200 players, an increase of more than 60%.
Jungnang District is actively expanding its park golf infrastructure. Beyond the Jungnangcheon riverbank course, the district is utilizing idle spaces including a rooftop four-hole course at Sinnae Senior Welfare Center and an indoor screen park golf facility at Yongma Senior Welfare Center.
District Mayor Ryu Kyung-gi said, "We expect night operations will allow more residents to conveniently enjoy recreational sports." He added, "We will continue working to expand facilities so everyone can enjoy healthy leisure activities close to home."
Seoul's district governments are increasingly expanding night operations to meet resident demand for park golf. Yangcheon District is currently installing lighting at Anyangcheon Ecological Park Golf Course during the winter closure period, with full night operations planned to begin after April 10.
