After conceding an opening goal to Alejandro Bran in the 44th minute of the first half, Denis Bouanga equalized in the 56th minute off Son's assist. Neither team scored again.
The draw ended LAFC's winning streak in official matches since the start of the season. Before this match, LAFC had been on a five-game winning run, including the club's first-ever three consecutive MLS opening victories.
LAFC will seek a quarterfinal berth in the away second leg on March 18.
With the assist, Son has accumulated eight attacking points (one goal, seven assists) in six official matches this season. He has recorded three assists in three MLS matches and one goal with four assists in three CONCACAF Champions Cup matches. However, he has failed to score in five consecutive games since netting his first goal of the season on a penalty kick in the Champions Cup first round first leg away match against Real España of Honduras on February 18.
