The LPGA Tour's fourth event of the season, the Blue Bay LPGA, saw 22 of the 28 rookies competing this season take the field. This marks the first tournament with more than two rookies participating. The influx of young, ambitious newcomers has dramatically reshuffled the tour's driving distance rankings, with rookies claiming many of the top spots.
Rookie Lily Smith of the United States claimed the No. 1 spot with an average of 297.50 yards. Anne Chen, also an American rookie, ranked second with 294.50 yards.
Austin Kim, the Korean-American player who held the top position until last week, dropped to third at 291.21 yards. Julia Lopez Ramirez of Spain, last year's driving distance leader, fell four spots from second to sixth at 283.63 yards.
Nelly Korda, who won the season-opening Hilton Grand Vacations Tournament of Champions before skipping three Asian Swing events, saw her ranking plummet from fifth to 22nd at 272.17 yards.
South Korea's top long hitters Kim A-rim and Yoon Yi-na each dropped 22 spots to 26th (271.50 yards) and 28th (271.19 yards), respectively.
Hwang Yu-min, who struggled with her tee shots this tournament, fell 35 spots to 63rd at 262.59 yards. Lee Dong-eun debuted at 114th with 251.13 yards. Notably, tournament winner Lee Mi-hyang ranked 46th at 264.96 yards, placing higher than both Hwang and Lee Dong-eun.
These fluctuations are typical early-season anomalies. Some players may not use their drivers on certain holes, opting for irons off the tee instead. Last year, Yoon Yi-na started outside the top 100 while adjusting to a new driver and frequently using irons off the tee, but ultimately climbed to 13th by season's end.
