The Korea Golf Course Management Association has unveiled its official mascots "Pilttu" and "Sunggongi" to symbolize the future of the golf industry and foster closer communication with golfers.
The main character "Pilttu," revealed this time, is a warm leader who guides the green field and serves as the spirit of the course. The name combines "Field" with "Pilttu (筆頭)," meaning "to lead the way."
Pilttu's appearance incorporates key elements that comprise a golf course. The body captures the green hues of fairways, greens, and rough, while design motifs draw from course hazards and challenges such as bunkers and ponds, symbolically representing every moment golfers encounter on the field.
"Sunggongi," also unveiled alongside Pilttu, is a spirit of the earth—a small but mighty helper. When Pilttu walks across the field creating a path, Sunggongi waves the flag atop its head at the destination, indicating direction. Embodying the value that "success is about direction, not speed," Sunggongi is designed to remind golfers that the journey matters as much as the outcome.
The association plans to enhance golfers' offline experiences based on the two characters' universe. It will deploy Pilttu's image in various campaigns promoting safety and etiquette, and utilize the mascots as messengers for the golf course industry on social media.
