Kylian Mbappé, the star striker for Spanish football giant Real Madrid and the French national team, will be absent from the pitch for the foreseeable future due to a left knee sprain.
Real Madrid announced on its official website on the 2nd (local time), releasing a medical report on Mbappé. "French specialists examined Mbappé under the supervision of the club's medical staff and diagnosed him with a left knee sprain," the club stated. "It has been confirmed that the ongoing conservative treatment without surgery is appropriate. We will monitor his progress going forward."
Mbappé has been struggling with knee pain since December 2025, managing his condition by limiting his match appearances.
However, the club determined he needed sufficient rest and arranged for French specialists to conduct an examination, which led to this diagnosis.
Last season, Mbappé scored 59 goals in official competitions for Real Madrid, tying Cristiano Ronaldo's (Al-Nassr) club record for most goals in a single calendar year set in 2013. The achievement, however, came at the cost of overloading his knee.
Real Madrid ultimately decided to give Mbappé time to recover.
Manager Álvaro Arbeloa said, "I believe the best course of action is for Mbappé to return at 100% after his recovery. I don't know exactly how long it will take, but I just hope it won't be too long."
