'Major hunter' Brooks Koepka has switched his golf ball following a recent putter change. The gamble appears to have paid off, as he secured his first top-10 finish since returning to the PGA Tour.
According to Golf WRX, a U.S. golf equipment media outlet, Koepka used the Titleist Pro V1x ball at last week's PGA Tour Cognizant Classic. He had previously played with Srixon's Z-Star Diamond ball.
Koepka left LIV Golf and returned to the PGA Tour this season but struggled early, finishing tied for 56th at the Farmers Insurance Open and missing the cut at the Phoenix Open. These results were disappointing for a player with nine PGA Tour victories, including five major championships.
However, Koepka turned things around at the Cognizant Classic, which concluded on March 1 (local time), finishing tied for ninth. After an opening-round 74 that put him in danger of missing the cut, he rallied with rounds of 66, 69, and 65 to climb the leaderboard.
Koepka removed the Titleist brand markings from his Pro V1x balls, apparently due to contractual obligations. Before switching balls, he had already made an equipment change last month, replacing his longtime Titleist Scotty Cameron blade putter with a TaylorMade Spider mallet putter.
