Song Sung-moon of the San Diego Padres went silent after hitting safely in two consecutive Major League Baseball spring training games.
In an away game against the San Francisco Giants at Scottsdale Stadium in Scottsdale, Arizona, on March 1 (local time), Song started as the fifth batter and second baseman, going 0-for-3 with one strikeout. His spring training batting average now stands at .167 (2-for-12).
Song stepped into the batter's box in the first inning with two outs and a runner on first. He faced right-hander Logan Webb, a 15-game winner in the 2025 season who is set to represent Team USA in the 2026 World Baseball Classic. On a 1-2 count, Song hit the fourth pitch—a changeup low and away—but grounded out to shortstop.
In the fourth inning with two outs, Song lifted a 151.3 km/h (94 mph) sinker from right-hander JT Brubaker, but the center fielder made the catch.
In his third at-bat in the sixth inning, Song struck out.
He was replaced by Nick Solak on defense in the bottom of the sixth, ending his day.
San Diego lost to San Francisco 1-9 in the game.
