10,000 Condoms Gone in 3 Days: Olympic Village Faces Supply Crisis

The International Olympic Committee (IOC) has rushed additional condoms to the 2026 Milan-Cortina Winter Olympics Athletes' Village after supplies ran out.

USA Today reported on January 19 that the initial 10,000 free condoms distributed were exhausted within three days, prompting the IOC to replenish stocks. The outlet confirmed through an IOC spokesperson and the organizing committee that additional supplies arrived earlier this week.

"The IOC supports athletes' mental and physical health, including sexual health services," an IOC spokesperson said. "Demand exceeded expectations, leading to the shortage."

The IOC added that it plans to maintain adequate supplies through the end of the Games.

Free condoms have been distributed at Olympic Villages since the 1988 Seoul Summer Games. At the 2024 Paris Summer Olympics, 300,000 condoms were provided.

An unexpected participant stole the show during the women's cross-country skiing team sprint event.

A large Czech Wolfhound bounded onto the snow-covered course on January 18 at Tesero Cross-Country Ski Stadium in Italy. The dog sprinted behind Croatian skier Tena Hajžić, who finished 19th in the qualifying round, crossing the finish line to cheers and applause from spectators.

Sweden's Jonna Sundling, who won gold, said: "It was really funny. It looked like the dog wanted to come into the mixed zone with us, which made me laugh."
