Choi Ga-on's gold medal in women's snowboard halfpipe has been named one of the top 10 moments of the first half of the 2026 Milan-Cortina Winter Olympics by NBC.
NBC, the official U.S. Olympic broadcaster, released its list of top 10 highlights on its website on the 17th, marking 10 days since the Games began. Choi's gold medal ranked eighth. Her comeback victory was also included in The Athletic's "7 best moments" of the first half, announced the previous day.
In an article titled "Choi Ga-on edges out Chloe Kim for halfpipe gold," NBC wrote: "Chloe Kim appeared certain to secure a three-peat at the Milan-Cortina Winter Olympics, but the only athlete who could stop her was South Korea's 17-year-old prodigy Choi Ga-on." The broadcaster added: "The student defeated the master. The sight of Choi Ga-on and Chloe Kim celebrating together was memorable."
NBC's top moment featured the 18-month-old baby of Swiss mixed doubles curling pair Briar Schaller-Wuianieck and Schwaller-Wuianieck. The infant captured hearts worldwide by mimicking curling moves while watching her parents compete.
Ranking second through seventh were: Breezy Johnson (USA), winner of the women's alpine ski downhill; Johannes Klæbo (Norway), who set a new Winter Olympics record with nine career gold medals; Lucas Pinheiro Braathen (Brazil), who claimed Brazil's first Winter Olympic gold in alpine skiing; Mikhail Shaidorov (Kazakhstan), men's figure skating singles gold medalist; Ilia Malinin (USA), who helped secure team figure skating gold; and Layla Edwards, a Black defenseman on the U.S. women's ice hockey team.
Federica Brignone (Italy), who won two gold medals on home snow in alpine skiing, and Jessie Diggins (USA), who captured cross-country bronze in her final season, rounded out the list at ninth and tenth.
