Ski legend Lindsey Vonn (41, USA), who suffered a serious accident during the women's downhill event at the 2026 Milan-Cortina d'Ampezzo Winter Olympics, has shared an update following her surgery.
Vonn posted photos on her social media on February 11 (local time) showing her recovery. From her hospital bed, wearing medical equipment, she wrote: "I successfully underwent my third surgery today. Progress is slow, but my body is gradually improving."
She added: "I am deeply grateful to the medical staff who stayed by my side, my friends, family, and fans around the world who have supported me."
Vonn was injured on February 8 during the women's alpine ski downhill event at the Tofane Alpine Ski Center in Cortina, Italy. She collided with a gate during an early jump and fell, shattering her tibia into multiple fragments. The race marked her return just nine days after tearing her knee ligament. She was airlifted from the scene and underwent surgery at a local hospital.
Vonn won gold in the downhill at the 2010 Vancouver Olympics and bronze at the 2018 PyeongChang Olympics before retiring in 2019. She returned to competition after receiving a titanium artificial knee joint implant and competed in this year's Olympics.
