Former PGA Tour star Anthony Kim showed signs of a long-awaited resurgence, shooting 5-under-par 67 to finish one stroke off the lead after the first round of LIV Golf Adelaide on Friday.
Kim, 39, carded six birdies against one bogey at The Grange Golf Club to sit in a tie for third place. Bryson DeChambeau and Australian Marc Leishman share the lead at 6-under-par.
Once hailed as a potential rival to Tiger Woods, Kim vanished from professional golf in 2012 before making a stunning return to competition through LIV Golf in 2024 after a 12-year absence. He has since revealed he battled drug addiction during his time away from the sport.
Kim competed as a wildcard without a permanent team through last season but joined the 4Aces squad starting with this week's tournament, the second event of the 2026 LIV Golf season.
The three-time PGA Tour winner's best LIV Golf result had been a tie for 22nd at last week's season-opening event in Riyadh. His last professional victory came at the 2010 Houston Open.
The $30 million event features a packed leaderboard. Dustin Johnson sits alongside Kim at 5-under, while Jon Rahm is tied for fifth at 4-under-par.
Korean Golf Club teammates An Byeong-hun, Kim Min-kyu, and Lee Tae-hoon (Canada) are tied for 39th at 1-over-par. Danny Lee (New Zealand) shot 3-over to sit tied for 48th, while Song Young-han is tied for 54th at 4-over-par.
