Norwegian Biathlete Confesses to Cheating on Girlfriend After Winning Bronze

A Norwegian male biathlete delivered an unexpected confession during a broadcast interview moments after winning a bronze medal at the Olympics.

Sturla Holm Lægreid, 28, finished the men's 20km individual biathlon event at the 2026 Milan-Cortina Winter Olympics with a time of 52 minutes 19.8 seconds at the Anterselva Biathlon Arena in Italy on February 10 local time. He claimed bronze behind teammate Johannes Thingnes Bø (51:31.5) and France's Eric Perrot (51:46.3).

Lægreid, who won gold in the 4×7.5km relay at the 2022 Beijing Games, celebrated his second consecutive Olympic medal.

However, Lægreid could not smile after the race. Instead, he used the broadcast microphone to confess his wrongdoing.

"Six months ago, I met the love of my life. She was the most beautiful and kindest person in the world," Lægreid told Norwegian broadcaster NRK. "Three months ago, I made the biggest mistake of my life. I cheated on her."

"I told her what I did a week ago," he said. "I don't know what I can gain by saying this now, but sports have taken a back seat recently. I want to share this medal with her."
