Gunja-ri Course, regarded as the birthplace of Korean golf, has been revived on screen.
Golfzon announced on the 11th that it has restored Gunja-ri Course for screen golf and will offer it at Golfzon stores nationwide. Gunja-ri Course opened in 1929 as Korea's first 18-hole golf course. It is a symbolic venue where Korean golf culture truly began. Due to urban development, the site was converted into Seoul Children's Grand Park in 1972, ending its function as a golf course. The clubhouse that stood beside the first hole is now preserved as "Kkummaru" within the park.
Golfzon restored the course using its simulator technology based on historical materials and records of Gunja-ri Course. The terrain and atmosphere from its operation period between 1929 and 1971 were reflected throughout the course. Particular emphasis was placed on recreating the original Gunja-ri Course environment in the cart paths and ground textures.
"This restoration of Gunja-ri Course provides golfers with a special experience of playing a round at a historic Korean golf venue that no longer exists," Golfzon said. "It is highly meaningful in that it contributes to preserving Korea's golf heritage in a digital environment." The company added, "Golfzon will continue to preserve golf cultural assets in digital environments and steadily expand the scope of screen golf content based on our technology."
