Korea Sports Promotion Foundation Delivers $14,000 to Korean Team at Milano Olympics

The Korea Sports Promotion Foundation announced on the 9th that it delivered 20 million won (approximately $14,000) in encouragement funds to the Korean delegation participating in the 2026 Milano-Cortina d'Ampezzo Winter Olympics.

Foundation Chairman Ha Hyung-joo visited the Olympic Village in Milano, Italy on the 7th and presented the funds to delegation head Lee Su-kyung.

"I hope that four years of hard work will lead to valuable results on the grand stage of the Olympics," Ha said. "Together with the Korean people, we will wholeheartedly cheer for our athletes to compete without injuries and without regrets."

The foundation provides encouragement funds to boost morale and enhance performance of national team athletes at major international competitions including the Olympics.

Lindsey Vonn, the living legend of women's alpine skiing who competed at the Olympics despite a knee injury, has undergone surgery following an unexpected accident.

Vonn lost her balance and fell after her right arm hit a gate just 13 seconds into the women's downhill event at the Tofane Alpine Ski Center in Cortina d'Ampezzo, Italy on the 8th (Korea time).

After receiving emergency treatment from medical staff, Vonn was airlifted directly to a hospital. She received initial treatment in the intensive care unit at a Cortina regional hospital before being transferred to a larger hospital in the Treviso area.

The hospital announced in a statement that "orthopedic surgery was performed to stabilize a left leg fracture."

Vonn had suffered a torn left ACL during a World Cup event on January 30th ahead of the Winter Olympics but persevered and proceeded to compete in the Games.
