Woo Hee-jong, professor emeritus of veterinary medicine at Seoul National University, has been appointed as the new chairman of the Korea Racing Authority (KRA).
Woo reported to work at the KRA headquarters in Gwacheon, Gyeonggi Province, on Monday for the first time, beginning his three-year term as the 39th chairman of the organization.
Former chairman Chung Ki-hwan, who took office in February 2022, had continued to lead the KRA beyond his three-year term due to delays in selecting his successor.
Born in 1958, Woo is a Seoul National University graduate who served as a professor in the university's Department of Veterinary Medicine and as dean of the College of Veterinary Medicine. He also served as co-representative of the Platform Party and as a member of the emergency steering committee of the Rebuilding Korea Party.
