HL Anyang head coach Baek Ji-sun has been suspended for the remainder of the Asia League Ice Hockey season.
HL Anyang announced Saturday that the Asia League office confirmed the disciplinary action against Baek on Friday. HL Anyang is South Korea's only professional men's ice hockey team.
The suspension was issued for "inappropriate conduct." Following a home game against Nikko IceBucks on December 14 last year, Baek protested to referees regarding the officiating. The Asia League office determined that Baek engaged in inappropriate conduct during the incident and finalized the disciplinary measure.
Under the suspension, Baek is banned from all league-related activities, including games and practices, until the end of the 2025-2026 Asia League Ice Hockey regular season. HL Anyang had already removed Baek from team activities last month, prior to the league's disciplinary decision.
Baek is a former NHL star who won the Stanley Cup Finals. In 2014, he became head coach of the South Korean national ice hockey team and led the squad at the 2018 PyeongChang Winter Olympics. He has been coaching HL Anyang since 2021.
Four regular season games remain in the 2025-2026 Asia League season. HL Anyang sits in second place with 69 points (23 wins, 9 losses), trailing Red Eagles Hokkaido (75 points).
