South Korea is projected to win three gold medals and finish 14th in the medal standings at the 2026 Milan-Cortina Winter Olympics, according to a Canadian sports analytics firm.
Shorview Sports Analytics (SSA) released its country-by-country medal projections for the Games on Sunday, forecasting South Korea to earn three gold, two silver, and two bronze medals, placing the country 14th in the medal rankings based on gold medal count.
At the 2022 Beijing Games, South Korea finished 14th with two gold, five silver, and two bronze medals. The country achieved its best Winter Olympics result at the 2010 Vancouver Games, finishing fifth with six gold, six silver, and two bronze medals. At the 2018 PyeongChang Games held on home soil, South Korea ranked seventh with five gold, eight silver, and four bronze medals.
SSA projected that Choi Ga-on, a high school student competing in women's freestyle skiing halfpipe, and Kim Gil-li of Seongnam City Hall in women's short track speed skating 1,500 meters are likely to win gold medals. The analytics firm also expects South Korea to win the women's 3,000-meter short track relay.
If Choi wins gold as projected, it would mark South Korea's first Winter Olympic gold medal in skiing history. Such a victory would also mean defeating American star Chloe Kim, who is seeking her third consecutive Olympic title in the event.
Norway is projected to top the medal standings with 14 gold medals, followed by the United States with 13 and Germany with 12. Among Asian nations, Japan is expected to finish 11th with five gold medals, while China is projected to place 12th with four.
