TaylorMade Launches 2026 TP5 Series Golf Balls with Micro-Coating Technology

TaylorMade has unveiled its 2026 TP5 and TP5x golf balls. The TP5 series features a rare five-piece construction among major golf balls. The TP5 offers relatively high wedge spin and a very soft feel, while the TP5x delivers very fast ball speed and high trajectory. The new TP5 has enhanced distance performance comparable to the previous TP5x, with even better greenside spin capability. Rory McIlroy of Northern Ireland has also switched to the new TP5 ball. The new TP5x flies more stable than its predecessor while traveling farther.

TaylorMade introduced an innovative production process ahead of developing the new balls. Previously, the company produced approximately 200 prototype balls for testing when launching new products, but now computer software enables creation of more than 100,000 digital prototypes. This 500-fold increase in simulations has significantly improved the precision and completeness of the balls.

Coating is one of the final steps in ball manufacturing, and this process previously caused pooling, where paint would slightly accumulate in the concave parts of dimples. Most ball manufacturers struggle with this issue. When paint is not evenly applied across each dimple, air flow becomes disrupted and ball flight becomes irregular.

TaylorMade developed a micro-coating technique that applies coating with extreme precision. This technology enables control of paint application down to one-millionth of a gram. Ball flight consistency has improved accordingly.
