Heo Woong, the ace of Busan KCC in the Korean Basketball League (KBL), will receive a commemorative award for setting a historic record of 14 three-pointers and 51 points in a single game.
"We will present a commemorative award to Heo Woong for recording 51 points, the highest single-game score this season," the KBL announced Monday.
In the game against Seoul SK at Jamsil Students' Gymnasium in Seoul on Sunday, Heo scored 51 points including 14 three-pointers. He made 10 three-pointers in the first half alone for 34 points and added four more three-pointers in the second half to continue his scoring run.
Kim Sun-hyung, then playing for SK, previously received a commemorative award after scoring 49 points in a game between SK and Busan kt (now Suwon kt) at Jamsil Students' Gymnasium on January 5, 2019.
Heo's scoring record ranks third for the most points by a domestic player in a single KBL game.
Former commentator Woo Ji-won and Suwon kt head coach Moon Kyung-eun hold the first and second spots in this category, having scored 70 and 66 points respectively on March 7, 2004—the same day that became controversial for alleged "stat-padding."
The award ceremony for Heo is scheduled to take place during the KCC vs. Daegu Korea Gas Corporation game at Busan Sajik Gymnasium on January 14.
