Jessica Pegula, world No. 6 in women's tennis, has been selected as the recipient of the WTA Tour 2025 Sportsmanship Award.
The WTA Tour announced the winners of major individual awards including the Sportsmanship Award on Tuesday.
Pegula received high marks for her thoughtful attitude, fair play spirit, and respect for fellow players beyond her on-court performance, earning the Karen Krantzcke Sportsmanship Award, which is determined by a vote among fellow players.
"She was recognized for her graceful and considerate demeanor, her advocacy for fair play, and her respect for her fellow competitors," the WTA said.
Pegula, the 2024 US Open singles runner-up, is well known for her Korean heritage—her mother Kim Pegula was adopted from Seoul to the United States in the 1970s.
She won the WTA Tour Korea Open singles title held in Seoul in 2023 and described herself as "half Korean" in an interview during her first appearance at the Korea Open in 2019.
Her father, American businessman Terry Pegula, has a net worth of $7.6 billion (approximately 11.2 trillion won), ranking 418th on Forbes' global wealth list.
Meanwhile, the Jerry Diamond ACES Award, given to players who have contributed to the advancement of women's sports, went to Coco Gauff.
Hendrick Drehschmidt, coach of Amanda Anisimova, who reached the women's singles finals at both Wimbledon and the US Open this year, was named Coach of the Year.
